The answer to that question is yes and no. As you should have realize by now there are people who eat as much as you if not more remains skinny, while you try so hard to reduce the amount of calorie you consume and still grow bigger.

One part of the reason is that our metabolism rate is different and the other part is you cannot just look at calories when trying to go on a diet. The reason being calories are made up of 3 components, which are carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Our body does not take note of the amount of calories we consume, but instead the amount of calorie we consumed of each type.

A good example would be using sugar as a factor, when you consume too much of this type of calories, our body would not be able to use all of it and would then be stored as fats. Even if you consume very little calories but consume too much of one type, you would still put on weight.

Now that you know the problem, the next step would be to find the solution. Our body need 3 types of calories each day and it does not have to be in every meal. That means instead of just counting overall calories you would have to count the calories in each individual type; fat, protein and carbohydrate.

There are even some fat calories that can help boost weight loss, while those fat free products consumed too much are actually making you put on weight. This is one of the reasons why most people have difficulty losing weight because of many misconceptions like this. Believing that anything that says fat free is healthy, not realizing it does not cause weight loss and fat calories does not become fats in your body unless consumed too much.

The answer to that question is both. When we choose good carbohydrates, which are full of fibers they are slowly absorbed by our body and helps evade drastic increase in blood sugar level. Some of these high fiber carbohydrates can be found in whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and beans.

By decreasing our intake of bad carbohydrates we increase our health and fitness level. Some of the bad carbohydrates can be found in white bread and white rice as they remove the useful fiber from it. There are also studies that shows having a high fiber diet could also help in losing weight and preventing colon cancer.

By now you should know that good carbohydrates come from food that contains fiber, vitamins and minerals like whole grains, beans, vegetables, and fruits. Fiber plays an essential role in the “Good Carbohydrate” as they cannot be absorbed and slows down the absorption rate of other nutrients eaten within the meal. These would help prevent diabetes and promote weight loss, as fiber would make you feel full. This diet requires you to consume large amount of meat and that probably would attract a lot of guys to this diet. It consist of lean beef, veal, chicken, turkey and fish, all of which are the main source of food that you are going to consume during this diet. There is also a limited ways for you to prepare them, and that is to roast, broil, smoke and boil them. You may also spice up the cooking with tabasco sauce, herbs, salt, and pepper, but no oil, condiments, butter, margarine and dressings. Finally there are the eggs, which can be hard boiled, poached, fired and dairy product like cottage cheese, farmer cheese and pot cheese made from skim milk.

You also have to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day and you are also allowed to drink tea, coffee and drinks that does not contain calories. There are no vegetables and fruits in this diet so it suits those who do not like either of those and it does not require you to count calories so it saves those who do not have time the trouble. The thing with our body is that it does not store protein so it allows you to consume it until your satisfied. Sounds good so far? But for me the Cons are a real deal breaker, which would let you think twice about going for this diet.

It as a very limited food list, with almost no dairy products and the restriction on vegetables and fruits could be very bad for health as it would cause dehydration, constipation some deficiency in your body. With its ban on oils, butter and margarine, you are left with very limited ways to cook which makes it very troublesome for people who do not have much time for cooking.

You would mostly only consume protein in this diet and at this level it would be very unhealthy as it promotes high cholesterol, because of saturated fats in meat, which could lead to heart disease and stroke. It also stresses the kidneys, as it is required to filter the nitrogen in protein, which are harmful to the body. With large amount of protein being consumed, the kidneys would be overworked and would then lead to kidney disorders.

As I have mention the body is unable to store excess protein, so excess protein that is consumed is converted into glucose by the liver and either used up as energy or stored as fat. Hence, stressing the liver and would cause liver damage in the long run.

With all this side effects I would conclude that this diet is not suitable to be used in the long run and should be avoided, because what we want is to be healthy and look good not hurting ourselves in the process. South Beach Diet and the Atkins Low Carbohydrate Diet Plan

These 2 diets are very similar but they also have their differences, so I am going to talk about the similarities and differences, the pros and the cons. First we begin with the Atkins Low Carbohydrate Diet, it is a diet base on consuming low quantity of carbohydrates. Especially at the first phase of the diet, which is the strictest on the limit or carbohydrate consumption.

The diet plan starts with a limit of 80 calories worth of carbohydrate, which is even lesser than what a large apple contains. From this you can tell that it is going to be a hard to maintain diet, as it is strict and rigid, even though phase one of the Atkins Diet has been listed as optional, the low carbohydrate diet is still hard stick to, unless you are very committed to the diet.

Next we move on to the South Beach Diet, which is similar in the sense it is also a low carbohydrate diet program, also especially so during the first phase. Even though it is not as strict as the Atkins diet program, I believe the carbohydrate consumption limit is still too low to be practical for dieters who are not so disciplined.

With the rules of the diet forbidding many foods, the menu of higher carbohydrate food is severely limited. The only food, which are more lenient on the consumption limit are the protein foods and super low calorie vegetables. An example would be the diet allows you to consume lettuce till you are full but limit the amount of tomatoes and onions. There is a sweet snack menu, that lets you think the diet plan is not too bad, but it is limited to 75 calories per day, which is even lesser than a large cookie.

These shows that both the South Beach and the Atkins diet program are dependent on a strict low carbohydrate menu. This makes it very hard for most people to follow their diet program, as it is hard to maintain and stick with the rules being so strict and the temptations are everywhere. What’s more both the diet plan are meant to be adapted into your lifestyle, meaning no carbohydrate for life. Even though as you progress through the phases the carbohydrate limit would be increase the diet is still too strict to follow and maintain.

In conclusion, I believe both diets would help you lose weight without a doubt but the sacrifice would have to be paid throughout your whole life. As once you go back to your carbohydrate filled diet the weight, which you had once lost, would bounce back with revenge.
